Kevin Williamson a annoncé au NY Post qu'il était en train de ré-écrire le scénario du nouveau Scream, du fait de la défection finale de Neve Campbell qui lui a confirmé ne pas vouloir reprendre le rôle de Sidney.

"I've had numerous conversations with Neve. She's a friend. Nicest girl on the planet. It just ain't workin' out and it sucks for me. It was no cameo. I'd never play Sid out that way. And I ain't got no Sid-less scenario. So, I don't know yet what to do."

Courteney Cox & David Arquette ont par ailleurs indiqué qu'ils reprenaient bien leurs rôles.

Nouveau coup de théâtre aussi fort que dans les films, Neve Campbell a finalement dit oui à Scream 4 au grand soulagement de Kevin Williamson.

“Scream IV” will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Weinstein reports. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will star.

jolie apparation de neve campbell dans un double épisode de Medium et elle fait partie du casting d'une série intéressante the Philantropist. Pas très spectaculaire, mais rien de déshonorant

In a morning report about the 2009 American Film Market - which was admittedly glum last year but is now seeing a silver lining - Screen Daily says The Weinstein Company's Scream 4 has been a hit in the marketplace with buyers "flocking" to the title.

This is even before Kevin Williamson has even turned in a draft of the script. Early buzz in the marketplace could spell good things for Dimension Films which has had a sluggish 2009. It might even prompt the Weinsteins to move a little faster to lock down a director. Wes Craven is being courted to return, but he wants to see a script first.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are signed to star again and the fourth entry will introduce all-new characters.

"The thing about 'Scream 4' is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything," he told PopWrap about Sidney's role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. "There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see -- but if you're a 'Scream' fan, I think you're really going to like it."

As for the elements that will make this next crop of killings so exciting, Kevin explained that the changing face of horror over the last 10 years has also altered the tone of the new movie.

"I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone."

But the biggest hurdle Kevin faced while shaping "Scream 4" was not making it too jokey. "You have to be careful because 'Scary Movie' spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with 'Scream 4' is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost."

Dimension Films has greenlit "Scream 4" to shoot this spring with a release date of April 12, 2011 -- more than a decade after the release of "Scream 3."

Wes Craven will direct and Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette will reprise their roles along with a group of younger thesps.
