I spoke to someone at Paramount today and he confirmed for me that DANGER: DIABOLIK has only been postponed -- till sometime next year -- not cancelled. http://www.mhvf.net/forum/euro/posts/48717.html
This is to let interested parties know that I just returned from a brief trip to LA, where I spent close to six hours yesterday -- Wednesday, September 2 -- recording a spontaneous (unscripted) audio commentary for DANGER: DIABOLIK with John Phillip Law.
I hadn't seen John since 1993, when I interviewed him for my book and we spent one memorable Sunday watching PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES and THE WHIP AND THE BODY together in the back row of the Director's Guild Theatre. The disc's producer, Kim Aubry, is going to spend 40 hours of studio time editing the commentary together, so I'll be as interested as the rest of you to hear how it turns out. I just know that John was in superb form, that both John and Kim were pleased with my contribution, and that we had a winning rapport on tape -- lively, funny, relaxed. So Kim has some tough choices ahead of him. I've always been apprehensive about doing spontaneous commentaries, and turned down some invitations to provide them, but with the right producer, I've discovered, I can do this.
Next week, John is flying to Rome to work with none other than Lamberto Bava... on, of all things, a music video with a DIABOLIK angle -- and John will be reprising the role of Diabolik... 36 years after the original feature film! John is hoping that Lamberto can get Sergio Stivaletti to step into Carlo Rambaldi's shoes and design a proper Diabolik mask for him to wear in the (Italian parlance) "clip."
