The Stewardesses is the most profitable 3-D film in history. In today's dollars, it grossed over $100,000,000.00 (no, that's not a typo). The film played for over 2 years in some theatres, and out-grossed mainstream fair like Love Story.
It is also the only film that was ever edited as it was being shown in the theatre. The movie started playing in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 1969. As money came in, scenes were reshot, footage was recut, and the prints in the projection booth were altered... week by week. People were coming to see the film every week just to see how it had changed!
In 1971, a dupe negative was struck for a wide release. This version is the one that most folks saw over the years.
We have most of the out-takes and trims, and intend to put together the definitive version of The Stewardesses!
We will be releasing the long, uncut version of The Stewardesses on DVD and in select movie theatres sometime in 2005.
In addition, we are currently producing a documentary on the making of this classic film, and to that end, we've interviewed members of the crew, as well as the star of the film, Christina Hart.
As of right now, we are still in planning stages of this project,
however when our plans are finalized, we will be glad to
inform you. Please sign up for our mailing list at http://www.thestewardesses.com.
A noter que le film est disponible en Blu ray 3D, au format, chez Kino Lorber aux USA et le prix vient de descendre à $12.95€ sur un site de vente en ligne à cheval bien connu...
