This August New Line's at it again with a trio that'll most likely wind up on my shelves regardless of their faults. (Hey, someone's gotta care for the ugly stepchildren...) According to DVD File, New Line will release Tobe Hooper's mind-blowingly retarded The Mangler on August 17th. This 1994 loose Stephen King adaptation stars Robert Englund in dual roles and features one rip-roarin', pissed off laundry press. Woo hoo!
Also on the 17th New Line will finally jettisonThe Guyver and Guyver 2: Dark Hero onto disc. I say "finally" because I'm sick and tired of breaking out my laserdiscs every time I want to watch these two flicks. Yeah, you read that right. I'm a fan. Who can deny my simple pleasures of seeing a dude in a nifty bio-suit beat up on a bunch of monsters?! Re-Animator's David Gale co-stars in the first installment with Mark Hamill, Michael Berryman, and...Jimmy Walker! Screaming Mad George and Steve Wang shared directing duties on the first one too. 1994's Guyver 2, on the other hand, features none other than X-Men, X2 scribe David Hayter in the titular role.
All of these titles will receive a remastered picture and 5.1 surround track. Look for alternate scenes with side-by-side comparisons on The Mangler.
