Excalibur (1981) de John Boorman

c'est quoi le la meilleur édition , toutes zones confondues , de Excalibur ?

Warner l'a sortie un peu partout dans le monde, la copie la plus intéressante étant le zone 1 américain car il a un commentaire audio absent des autres DVD. Mais Warner a annoncé qu'il préparait une nouvelle édition spéciale, avec nouveau télécinéma, etc... pour un futur plus ou moins proche...

Quelqu'un a t-il eu l'occasion de voir Excalibur en HD DVD ?

Est ce que ça vaut la peine de s'acheter un lecteur juste pour ça ?

C'est un HDDVD qui a assez mauvaise réputation au niveau image ! En partie parce que le filmage était granuleux et sombre (donc, c'est normal), mais aussi, pour certains chroniqueurs, parce que la copie et la travail numérique ne semblent pas top ; dvdbeaver :

" On the technical side, Excalibur was filmed in 1:85:1 ratio which fills the screen on a 16:9 television. It shows up as 1.78:1 actually on this transfer and has a tight matte on it. Overscan leaves it pretty close to this on your set. Again, this version seems to be from an aging master and it would be amazing to see a brand new cleaned up version of this film, however, for now it is all Warner Brothers is giving us. You will find loads of grain and soft focus in the film as well as dirt, dust and torn negatives throughout. There is edge enhancement all over the film and in reality it is only a slight step above the DVD version of the film, however it is still a step up. Colors can occasionally tend to pink giving a weird flesh tone to the film. But the forest scenes are simply brilliant and look good enough to eat, at least the daylight scenes. From scene to scene you will go from amazement to embarrassment of the quality, but once again I simply don’t see Warner going back and doing a restoration as this film did not have the box office influence of Gone with the Wind or Citizen Kane. I still however reserve hope that it will one day get the treatment it deserves, perhaps for 2011 the 30th Anniversary and I will get to watch it again on 3D HD DVD."

Bon visiblement c'est pas catastrophique mais ça aurait quand même pu être beaucoup mieux.

En tout cas le type résume bien le problème : Si le film n'a pas été un gros succes, peu de chance que celui ci bénéfcie d'une restoration importante.

C'est par contre hallucinant que même en dvd, ce film n'est pas bénéficié d'une éidtion collector !

Re-sortie aujourd'hui à Paris, au Champo (qui prend les deux cartes illimitées), sans doute dans la salle 1 (relativement petite, mais bien équipée et refaite récemment)

Vu pour la première fois après l'avoir acheté une bouchée de pain à Auchan. J'ai d'abord été un brin surpris par le ton très théâtral du (sur)jeu des acteurs, puis passé un temps d'adaptation, je me suis laissé porté par l'ambiance très particulière du film. Pas mal d'ellipses, nécessaires pour relater du début à la fin la légende arthurienne, et beaucoup de symbolisme également (dans lequel pas mal de réalisateurs iront piocher par la suite, Lucas en tête).

Alors c'est une vision très fantasmée, même si le roi Arthur et les chevaliers de la table ronde n'ont pas existé, s'ils l'avaient été on serait plus proches de KAAMELOTT à mon avis , mais la classe de la mise en scène malgré le manque évident de moyen vu l'ambition affichée parvient à son but.

Et puis aussi, en voyant EXCALIBUR, on comprend bcp mieux les références de MONTHY PYTON SACREE GRAAL

Quel choc se BR sans enterré les très bon DVD Z1/Z2. Jamais au grand jamais Excalibur n'avait bénéficier d'une tenu de définition et de couleurs comme celle-ci.

Ok le grain subsiste mais quel image

Il a pas volé sa note sur Bluray.com, pour dire je le préfère au BR de Barry Lyndon sortie dernièrement

Il me semble que les images de tournage ont été filmées par Neil Jordan.

Maintenant ce qu'il faudrait c'est une vraie restauration 4K.
