Pan's labyrinth - Guillermo Del Toro 2006

Pans Pan's labyrinth, on suivra les aventures d'Ofelia, jeune fille à la santé fragile qui découvre un labyrinthe dans le jardin de la demeure où elle a déménagé avec sa mère et son nouvel époux, un soldat franquiste tyrannique. Elle se lie avec le gardien des lieux, un certain Pan... C'est Sergi Lopez, l'acteur d'Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien, qui incarnera Vidal, le sanguinaire beau-père d'Ofelia. Il aura à ses côtés Ariadna Gil, Alex Angulo, Maribel Verdu et Ivana Baquero dans le rôle d'Ofelia.

"Pan´s is an original story. Some of my favorite writers (Borges, Blackwood, Machen, Dunsany) have explored the figure of the God Pan and the symbol of the labyrinth. These are things that I find very compelling (´member the labyrinth (s) image (s) on HELLBOY??) and I am trying to mix them and play with them.

Don´t get me wrong. I am not trying to compare my meager intellect with the aforementioned giants but just trying to have a go at these rich symbols that hold such a hold on me.

Involved as designers are Carlos Gimenez (Devil´s Backbone) and Bill Stout (Return of the living Dead) and as DoP Guillermo Navarro. Its a co-production between Tequila Gang (my Mexican Company) and my compadre Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban).

Sewers, catacombs, etc, they are all labyrinthian, sure, but the TRUE Labyrinth holds in itself much secret knowledge and symbols. I consider CRONOS and DEVIL´S BACKBONE to be tales rich in symbols and Hermetic readings.

The tradition of the Labyrinth is an ancient one and it belongs to all cultures. This is only my riff on it. Its very much a Fairy Tale, but a very dark one, set against the background of Fascist Spain in 1944.

Car j'aime beaucoup HellBoy, mais les comics à tout va, c'était gaché le talent de Del Toro

Hallucinant comme j'en attends beaucoup de ce film. Del Toro n'est certainement pas le cineaste qui me touche le plus, mais j'ai vraiment hate de voir ce qu'il peut faire avec un tel sujet et un budget plus resseré. Mais il devait pas adapter Lovecraft, le gros mexicain ?

Oui, il y a un projet "at the mountain of madness - les montagnes hallucinées" mais pas de tournage annoncé pour le moment.

En 2002, on pouvait lire:
"Ce thriller fantastique suivra les aventures d'un groupe d'explorateurs qui, au beau milieu de l'Arctique, découvre les ruines d'une civilisation ancienne. Leur joie sera toutefois de courte durée lorsqu'ils réaliseront que l'endroit est également le repère de dangereuses créatures préhistoriques affamées...



Enthousismé par le projet, Guillermo Del Toro a d'ores et déjà annoncé que ce projet serait sans doute son film majeur : "Ce sera mon film d'horreur épique". Le projet est actuellement en cours d'écriture, sous la direction de Guillermo Del Toro et de son vieux complice Matthew Robbins, qui était déjà son scénariste sur l'inquiétant Mimic. "


Guillermo del toro:
"What is great about that one is no one has done that kind of Lovecraft right," del Toro enthuses. "No one has really tried to make Gothic monsters and cities and the dimension of existing in a world that is basically the breadcrumbs of a cosmic picnic. We're here because someone made a little joke. That's the whole credo of Lovecraft. Some creatures created life on Earth as a joke. It's really just a perspective that is rarely or never seen on film. So, we're trying very hard to get that. It will take a while."

As Lovecraft's work has been interpreted and re-interpreted by artists throughout the years, the marriage to del Toro, who focuses a lot of his attention on concept art and production design, seems like a no-brainer. In fact, del Toro is already recruiting his team. "The book is difficult because if you've read it, it's all atmospheres," del Toro explains. "These atmospheres are a very big thing. What we're doing--Mike (Mignola) will be there, but of fucking course, and Wayne Barlowe will be there, but the next person that I called immediately was Gahan Wilson because that is a guy who knows Lovecraft back and forth. So, I'm talking to him, too, to come and join the team to come up with ideas and have them create a real Lovecraftian universe. That's what stage it's at right now. I said to the studios, look, to me, this is my TITANIC. This is the biggest thing I will ever do in my life. It's huge, it's difficult, we will shoot in the glaciers, I will probably lose a lot of weight."

Finally, for hardcore Lovecraft fans that may think a filmic adaptation of MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS could never cross over without big changes, del Toro made a point of saying how closely he wants to follow the book. "I can tell you it's not your regular horror movie from Hollywood," del Toro says. "With MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS we're doing the best to give you the sense of the Lovecraft mythology and if it doesn't work, if the studios don't see it, we will not do it. We will not do an alternate. I will not change that. We're doing it 'period' because I think the worst thing you can do to Lovecraft is set it in the present day. The whole thing takes place exactly in the time of the expedition with the people in the expedition and we're doing it faithful to the book.""

The mountains of Madness... un des trucs les plus impressionnants de Lovecraft... c'est clair que le garçon peut prendre son temps pour chiader le film, on aurait du mal à lui pardonner ne serait-ce qu'un demi plantage.

At the Mountains of Madness par Del Toro J'étais même pas au courant Mais ce serait ENORME ! C'est la 1ère histoire de Lovecraft que j'ai lue quand j'ai acheté les 3 volumes complètes de ses oeuvres en 1991. Et j'ai été littéralement scotchée et surtout, terrifiée.

Pour PAN'S LABYRINTH, j'ai hâte. Les photos sont superbes et ça semble se rapprocher plus de CRONOS ou L'ECHINE DU DIABLE que je préfère largement à BLADE 2 ou HELLBOY.

Hellboy 2 c'est normalement prevu apres "Pan's Labyrinth" (probablement pour engranger du pognon et du credit aupres des studios en prevision de l'adaptation de Lovecraft).
Bon, et il sort quand ce "Pan's Labyrinth" ?
